Bruce Rauner, who will be sworn-in as governor tomorrow, names his first cabinet appointments.

One is the Reverend James Meeks for Chairman of the State Board of Education.

Meeks is pastor of the 15,000 member Salem Baptist Church on Chicago's South Side.

As a state senator, Meeks served as head of the Senate's Education Committee.

Rauner also tapped Randy Blankenhorn for Secretary of Transportation and Tim Nuding for Budget Director.

Rauner and his wife, Diana, are participating in a service event in Chicago this morning.

That's at the Preston Bradley Center on West Lawrence.

The visit is part of a state fly-around, which Rauner began on Friday.  He stopped in Maryville, Moline and Quincy yesterday to thank voters for their support.

Rauner will also be attending a jobs fair for veterans today, a "Serving Illinois Families" program at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and an inaugural reception and dinner in Springfield.
