CHICAGO -- At least one person is dead in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 290.

Illinois State Police say the crash happened at 4:40am Sunday in the inbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway near Des Plaines Avenue in Forest Park.

One driver who was involved in the crash says a car was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes.

He says he never saw the car coming and there were no headlights.

That car struck a passenger van and then an SUV.   The van came to a rest on top of a concrete median.

The wrong-way car was twisted and unrecognizable.   The witness says the driver was taken to the hospital.

His condition is unknown.

Several other people were also taken to the hospital.  Their conditions and identities are unknown.

All traffic in the inbound lanes has been stopped until  the Illinois State Police can investigate and clear the scene.
