WHITING, Ind. — The temperature was just 1 degree when firefighters were called to battle a house fire in Northwest Indiana.

The fire broke out on the second floor of a home in the 1700 block of Cleveland Avenue in Whiting on Wednesday.

Water that crews used to douse the flames quickly turned to ice.

The radios that firefighters were using also froze.

Two residents were rescued, and had to find somewhere else to live.

It took about 30 minutes to put the fire out.

No one was injured.
