Woman rescued, 4 officers injured in Berwyn apartment fire

Investigators are trying to determine what caused an apartment building fire that injured five people.

It started early Wednesday in a second floor apartment in the 3200 block of South Maple Avenue in Berwyn.

Police officers rescued a woman, believed to be in her 40’s, from the apartment.

She was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in serious condition with burns and smoke inhalation.

Four Berwyn police officers were also injured. Two of them were treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.
