Police have recovered the University of Southern California’s replica of OJ Simpson’s Heisman Trophy, more than 20 years after it was stolen.

Simpson won the award in 1968, while playing as a running back for USC. The trophy was stolen from a display case at the university in July 1994.

The LAPD recovered the trophy last month, but police said they would not release any more information because the investigation is ongoing.

Simpson is currently in a Nevada prison after he was convicted in 2008 of kidnapping and armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel. He sold the authentic Heisman trophy to pay legal debts from a civil suit in 1999, after he was acquitted of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ronald Goldman.
