A 31-year-old man is dead after being struck by a Red Line train early Sunday in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side.

A northbound Red Line train struck the man at the Argyle station in the 1100 block of West Argyle Avenue about 3 a.m., CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase said.

Officials say the male was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

His identity is not known at this time.

Train service was suspended and bus shuttles were operating between Howard and Belmont for nearly 2 hours.

The CTA has since been restored service on the red line.

Authorities say this incident is being handled as a death investigation.
