A Lake County judge set bond at $3 million dollars for a man accused of shooting his girlfriend to death inside a Waukegan bar.

33-year-old Elpidia Munoz-Garcia was shot around 1 a.m. Friday morning in the Tacos Buenos Bar. 23-year-old Roberto Romero has been charged with her murder.

Friends say the two were dating and once lived together.

Prosecutors say Romero came to the bar with his parent’s gun. Munoz-Garcia texted her boyfriend’s parents asking them to come pick-up the gun.  Shortly after Romero’s parents arrived, police say he shot his girlfriend and then took-off. A police pursuit followed and Romero eventually returned to the bar where he was arrested.

In addition to Romero’s parents, investigators say the victim’s 9-year-old daughter also witnessed the shooting.

Prosecutors say Romero admitted to the shooting and taking his parent’s gun earlier in the day.

Romero told investigators he “doesn’t know why he did it.” His next court date is set for January 28th.

Munoz-Garcia was Waukegan’s first murder of 2015.
