Winter is finally here, which means travel could be a little bit messy.

We're seeing it all-- from snow, sleet to rain. It's apart of the first big snow of the season.

Chicago's department of Streets and Sanitation has already deployed 280 snow plows and salt trucks to the main streets and Lake Shore Drive.

IDOT also has a full fleet out salting the expressways, anticipating the rain could freeze if the temperatures drop.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of  Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana which started at midnight.

Counties include Cook; DuPage; Grundy; Kane; Kendall; La Salle; Lake; Will in Illinois and Lake, Porter and La Porte in Indiana.

The advisory calls for mixed precipitation including a possibility for snow and sleet and freezing rain.

The National Weather Service says light snow and sleet will spread into the area early tonight and transition to freezing rain and freezing drizzle late before changing to all rain and drizzle mid Saturday morning.

The mix may cause slippery roads and drivers should be cautious.

The advisory goes into effect at midnight through 3 p.m. Saturday.
