A car crash more than 50-years ago has taken a surprising turn for an Illinois man.

This week Arthur Lampitt, 75, of Granite City had a seven-inch turn signal piece removed from his left arm.

It was lodged there in 1963 after crashing his Thunderbird into a truck.

At the time, Lampitt had more serious injuries to deal with including a broken hip.

The lacerations on his arm healed.

But, he never knew about the object that was left inside until decades later.

Lampitt went back to old photos of the mangled Thunderbird noticing for the first time the metal blinker lever was missing from the steering column.

That's the lever doctors in St. Louis removed this week.

He said he may put it to use and turning it into a key chain.
