Two Chicago Police officers were injured when their squad car was hit while they were responding to a call on the Northwest Side.

It happened just before midnight at Irving Park Road and Melvina Avenue, in the Portage Park neighborhood.

Witnesses say the officers were headed east with their lights and sirens on, when their SUV was t-boned by a southbound car that was speeding.

One of the officers suffered broken bones and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The second officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car is in good condition, and police say they will be cited for causing the crash.
