Police usually carry badges and give out tickets. But today in a Chicago suburb, a group of Santa-minded officers are carrying goody bags and giving out gifts to needy families.
300 to 400 gifts were handed out, either in a surprise traffic stop or to families at home.
30 families were identified through schools or social services get a visit from Police Officer Santa and his elves and a sleigh full of presents for good girls and boys. These families have had rough years.
The Scott family moved to Aurora with their seven children to get away from their crime ridden neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. Three weeks later the house they were renting burned to the ground. They're lucky they weren't home but they lost everything.
“Even though I lost all of those things, I didn't lose my family, thank God,” Ayesha Scott said.
Ayesha and her husband moved their family of nine into her aunt's house, who has six children. So this help from the police department is very much appreciated.
