Special education teacher charged with biting student
A special education teacher in Texas is charged with biting an elementary school student.
Samuel Haire, 30, turned himself into police Thursday after initially blaming the incident on another student at Kocurek Elementary School in Austin.
He says he lied about biting the 11-year-old boy on the arm last month, because he didn’t think people would understand it was a joke.
Haire said the boy didn’t want to sit at the table with another student. So, he opened his mouth and jokingly asked if the boy was afraid the other student would bite him. Then, Haire says the boy unexpectedly turned towards him and got bit.
The boy’s mother says he suffered severe bruising. The boy has transferred to another school in the district.
The district suspended Haire on Nov. 17 and he resigned on Nov. 26.
He is now facing a felony count of injury to a child.
