Police search for possibly suicidal Libertyville Army veteran
There’s a search for a missing Army veteran who police say could be suicidal.
30-year-old Daniel Nerstrom was last seen on December 1.
Police say he could be armed with a handgun because one of his weapons is missing from his home in Libertyville.
Police plan to send officers and volunteers to search a wooded area on Thursday.
Friends say Nerstrom was retired from the Army in 2009 because of a back injury and brain trauma.
They say he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, but he’s never been violent.
Police say they believe Nerstrom left his home on foot.
He lives in Libertyville with his girlfriend of two years and her 4-year-old son.
Nerstrom may be wearing a black or green Carhartt-style jacket with several military patches, a grey Under Armor shirt, tan military-style boots and a camouflage skull cap with a red spider logo.
He is 6-feet-1, weighs about 175 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.
He is experienced with the outdoors and enjoys camping.
There’s been no recent activity on his credit card or bank account.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact Libertyville Police at 847-362-8310.
