An Oklahoma mother is dead after police say she was shot by her toddler son, Tulsa World reports.

Authorities say Christa Engles, 26, was changing her 1-year-old daughter’s diaper when her 3-year-old son shot her in the head with a semiautomatic handgun.

A neighbor told police the boy found the gun underneath a couch.

Engles was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

According to police, Engles’ husband was not home at the time of the incident.

Judging by your offensive language, I’m going to assume you weren’t responding to the insensitive tone used by Zebrastripes. If this was a more articulate anti-gun argument, I bet you would respond the same way. Clearly, anyone who doesn’t agree with you is an idiot, right? RUH-ROH ALERT: By definition, an issue is a topic that is open to debate or discussion. If your way is the only valid, reasonable way to think about firearms, I don’t know why you’re referring to it as an ‘issue’ at all. Also, ‘absolutely’ is a fifth grade spelling word. You have every right to express your opinion on this topic, but it doesn’t seem like you’re in a position to insult anyone’s intelligence.

Jan Ray – You make a good point. Any anti-gun-rights comment is worthy of contempt, no matter how “civilized” it is.

I would not comment with a name like jan ray!
Also, Zebra Stripes has been reported to the authorities for their troubling comments toward law enforcement.

@Idaho “So sad people are killed by HAVING guns but not being able to HANDLE guns.”

I agree 100% with this sentiment. When people have access to guns and don’t know how to handle those guns correctly, tragedy results. There are two solutions to this: fewer guns or better training. Perhaps gun safety training would help if it was mandatory and high quality?

In the UK we have both few guns and strict requirements on people that own them. Almost all handguns are banned and you must have locks to protect guns you do have. You must reapply for a gun certificate every 5 years when you have a firearm, which includes a background check and an interview with a police officer. Consequently we have some of the lowest rates of firearm-related crime in the world.

THAT is the question. There are only two acceptable conditions to have a gun in a home with children present; locked away, or SECURED ON YOUR PERSON.

This accident is monumentally tragic, but it would never have happened had the above rule been followed.

But, according to the anti-‘s, it’s the gun’s fault.

Please update with the correct facts. Several other news outlets have reported that she was changing he younger sibling…that info is also in the statement released by police. If you’re going to report the news, it is important to get it right…

Fake story by anti gun dick sucking losers. How does a three year old aim a gun at your head when he /she is being changed without being noticed? Another news story aimed at destroying the 2nd ammendment.

NRA keeps telling us that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”. Strange that they don’t understand that all proposals concerning weapons control are aimed precisely at controlling the people who buy (and own) guns. Trying to control guns would be pretty stupid. (“Hey there mr Rifle, where are you going in the middle of the street so late at night?”)

    • Safety First

I’m told having more guns keeps us all safer. Perhaps if the mother was also carrying a gun on her person she would have been able to shoot first and prevent this terrible incident.

    • Safety First

Yes, reading between the lines the 3-year-old was very depressed at all the attention that 1-year-old was getting, and I believe singing along to `Nine Inch Nails’ at the time of the incident.

I don’t feel at all bad for her, responsible gun owners don’t leave guns loaded or unloaded where children can get them. Now her children will have to live with this the rest of their lives because shes an idiot.
