A 12-year-old boy who was shot Saturday by a police officer in Cleveland has died, FOX8 in Cleveland reports.

According to the station's report, police said the boy was shot outside a rec center after he reached into his pants for a fake gun.

Police received a 911 call Saturday afternoon before the incident, saying there was a male outside the Cuddell Recreation Center in Cleveland with what looked like a firearm. He was waving it around and pointing it at people.

However the caller said the gun was “probably a fake,” and that the person waving it looked to be a juvenile.

When police arrived, they asked the boy to raise his hands, but he did not. When he reached into his waistband, a police officer fired, striking the boy in the torso.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died Sunday morning.

According to FOX8, the investigation is ongoing.
