Marshall athletic director Dorothy Gaters is the most successful basketball coach in all of Illinois.

Tuesday she snagged her 1000th win.

She's spent nearly 40 years at marshal bringing victories and milestones nearly every step of the way.

Her office walls are filled with rows of awards to her and former players, pictures with dignitaries the likes of former mayors Harold Washington and Richard M. Daley and former president Bill Clinton.

Under Gater's guidance Marshall’s Lady Commando's have won eight state championships and 23 city titles. Her players have gone on to win scholarships to play college ball, go overseas and even play pro.
