It's been a year of struggle and recovery for the town of Washington, Illinois as residents gradually rebuild their community following a deadly tornado that ravaged the town one year ago today.

They've adopted the slogan "Washington Strong" and today will be a day of remembrance for the town.

A project to recover families memories carried away by the storm is being spearheaded by volunteers.

Items from family photographs to wedding dresses have been found all over Illinois and are still being returned a year later.

Found items can be returned to the Washington District Library, 380 N. Wilmor Road in Washington, Illinois.
