Chicagoans are shivering through one of the coldest early-season cold snaps on record. Daily temperatures have averaged double-digits below normal for nearly a week and Tuesday is shaping up to be the coldest day yet.
By daybreak the mercury is expected to bottom out in the single-digits. The latest forecast calls for a morning low of 9 degrees- just one degree above the day’s record low of 8 established in 1880.
The day’s high is expected to struggle to reach 20 degrees which would break the day’s record low maximum of 22 set back in 1903.
