According to Illinois State Police seven accidents were reported on the Edens Saturday evening.
Slide-offs and spin-outs were reported on both sides, according to police.
Carson Quinn from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said the north and northwest suburbs, specifically Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, were reporting the most severe issues.
Drivers in Lake and McHenry County were also having major problems on the road.
IDOT has pretreated some streets and has their entire fleet out in full force Quinn said, "They are prepared."
The Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) deployed approximately 200 snow plows and salt spreaders to main streets and Lake Shore Drive.
"Plows will focus on clearing arterial routes to ensure streets are safe for motorists and emergency vehicles," according to a press release issues by the department. "Streets and Sanitation continues to monitor weather conditions from Snow Command and will adjust snow removal resources as needed."
