Slick roads creating major problems for drivers; several accidents reported

According to Illinois State Police seven accidents were reported on the Edens Saturday evening.

Slide-offs and spin-outs were reported on both sides, according to police.

Carson Quinn from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said the north and northwest suburbs, specifically Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, were reporting the most severe issues.

Drivers in Lake and McHenry County were also having major problems on the road.

IDOT has pretreated some streets and has their entire fleet out in full force Quinn said, "They are prepared."

The Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) deployed approximately 200 snow plows and salt spreaders to main streets and Lake Shore Drive.

"Plows will focus on clearing arterial routes to ensure streets are safe for motorists and emergency vehicles," according to a press release issues by the department.  "Streets and Sanitation continues to monitor weather conditions from Snow Command and will adjust snow removal resources as needed."

"Safety is the City's top priority, and motorists are urged to be patient when driving during inclement weather, to be cautious and drive according to the conditions."  To view the snow fleet in real time visit www.chicagoshovels.org.

    What a joke! You say safety is Chicago’s 1st priority? If that were true, you’d do something about ALL the drivers that speed on the highways in the Chicago area! 10+ and well over! I can’t say how many times I’ve seen people driving 90 in a 55! If safety is your 1st priorty, then clean up this mess! …. You can start with getting ALL the DUMBocrats out of office!
