College football: Northwestern defeats Notre Dame in OT

The Northwestern Wildcats edged the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in overtime, 43-40,  Saturday night.

Notre Dame led Northwestern, 27-23, through one half of play.

The Wildcats pulled to within three points with a little more than three minutes left in the fourth quarter. After recovering a fumble by Notre Dame’s Cam McDaniel with a little more than a minute left, Northwestern drove down the field for a game-tying field goal.

Northwestern won the game in overtime after Notre Dame missed a field goal on its first possession. The Wildcats took over, and made their attempt, ending the game.

Saturday marked the first time the two schools have played each other since 1995.
