More than 80 miles northwest of Chicago in southern Wisconsin, 10 acres of non-descript farmland has been a sanctuary to some of the most amazing animals in the world.

Valley of the Kings in Sharon, WI is home to tigers, lions, leopards, bears, pigs and a slew of other animals. For many of them, it will be the final resting place.

Recently, a group of Chicago-area military vets from Roosevelt University’s Veterans Upward Bound Program visited Valley of the Kings to lend a helping hand.

Twice a year the organization brings a little muscle up to Wisconsin to help the shelter and give their veterans new direction as well.

WGN’s Amy Rutlege has the story.
