Chicago Bear Jared Allen raises awareness about housing for former U.S. service members on this Veterans Day.
He loaded up on Procter & Gamble household supplies at a Walmart on the West Side, then delivered them to the Eddie Beard Homeless Veterans’ Housing Program at Jackson and Artesian. Fifteen veterans live in the home.
“It brings attention to the sacrifice, and how much we are all indebted to the veterans to go out and fight for us and keep this country safe, and what it is today," said Army veteran Donald Thomas.
Allen launched "Homes for Wounded Warriors" in 2009. The foundation builds or remodels homes for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
Procter & Gamble and Walmart have also agreed to provide a one-year supply of household goods for Eddie Beard.
Allen also handed out tickets to a Bears game at Soldier Field.
