Long-time Illinois congressman Phil Crane dies

Long-time Illinois congressman Phil Crane has passed away.

The Chicago Tribune reports he died Saturday of respiratory failure at a daughter’s home in Maryland.

The conservative Republican represented the northwest suburban 8th Congressional District from 1969 to 2005.

When Melissa Bean unseated him in 2004, Crane was the longest serving Republican member in the House of Representatives.

He also ran against Ronald Reagan in the 1980 republican presidential primary.

Phil crane was 84-years-old.
