In a video posted to YouTube Friday, Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis endorsed Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia in the Chicago mayor's race.

"Chicago needs a mayor who has the moral courage to do what's right for all of the city. THat is why I'm throwing my whole support behind Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia," Lewis said in the video.

This is Lewis' first video appearance since she was treated for a brain tumor earlier this month.

The video is just a portion of a longer video that will air Friday night at the CTU's annual Legislators and Educators Appreciation Dinner. Lewis is expected to attend the dinner.

Lewis had considered running for mayor before she was hospitalized. Some early polling had put her ahead of current Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Ald. Bob Fioretti is also a Chicago mayoral candidate.

Jesse Sharkey is currently the acting CTU president.

Why give this moron ANY time in the news, Clearly the union has done nothing to forward a solid educational foundation for our kids, they don’t care about anything but money, benefits and the suffocating legacy costs associated they insist on us paying. When her IQ hit’s 50, she should sell. Criminalize ALL public sector unions…

Really? By the Illinois report card, test scores went up 85% in CPS in 10 years. 8.5% a year is a huge amount. And the teachers accomplished that with one of the most challenging populations: 87% low income, homeless, hungry, 1/3 using special ed services or English as second language. Obviously they must be in it for money: they agreed to 3% raise (after Rahm didn’t give them their legally contracted 4% raise the year before) for 2012, a whopping 2% for 2013 & 2014, snort! That’s way LESS than the average US raise for those years. Sorry you actually have to provide for their retirement after they were poorly paid for decades, YOU are their employer! How would you like it if YOUR employer skipped out on your social security? Teachers don’t get social security.

As for Lewis’ IQ, you have an odd idea of who has low intelligence. Lewis attended Dartmouth College, where she was the only African-American female in her 1974 graduating class. She taught chemistry and Advanced Placement chemistry, most at Lane Tech, one of the best schools in the city.

In addition to Mount Holyoke College and Dartmouth, she has a Master’s degree in Inner City Studies Education. She also holds a second Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Film & Video. She is Nationally Board Certified , one of the highest certifications for teachers.

You confuse you feelings for actual facts
