High stakes, low budgets for CPS cooking competition

School cafeteria food doesn't have to be an unidentifiable piece of meat -- not if the kids competing in the annual Cooking Up Change competition have anything to say about it.

The national competition kicked off its 2014 edition at Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago today.

17 teams from Chicago Public Schools battled it out for the chance to go to the national tournament in Washington D.C.

The goal was to create delicious and nutritious meals that would be easy and affordable to make in a school cafeteria.

In a close race, Marshall High School came out on top. Their winning meal of Haitian Spice Chicken and collard greens will be put into rotation in the CPS lunch menu.
