A 4-year-old girl was injured when the roof of a porch collapsed in the South Shore neighborhood.

Crews responded to the 1600 block of E 74th Place around 5:30 Monday afternoon.

The 4-year-old, her 8-year-old brother and their mother were on the porch when the roof came down. The 8-year-old and the mother jumped out of the way just in time. They then cleared bricks and debris and dug out the girl.

When they first dug her out, the little one wasn't responding much but that quickly changed, once she realized she was safe.

The girl was considered serious when she was transported to the hospital, but the girl's injuries turned out to be fairly minor.

City building inspectors have already been to the home to assess the property.
