Some teenagers at New Trier High School are in hot water.

The teens, all boys, are accused of sexting nude photos of themselves and others during school hours.

All 12 of them were taken into custody between Oct. 14 and Oct. 17. They have since been released to their parents.

Winnetka Police say all of the pictures were images of subjects younger than 18. Some didn’t know photos of them were taken.

“We want to send a message to students that these digital images last forever,” Winnetka Deputy Police Chief Joe Pellus said. “These friends and acquaintances you send pictures to now may not be your friends in the future. But these images will be on a website forever.”

Officials say they are taking the matter ‘very seriously’ and said that as part of the high school’s health curriculum, students get lessons on safety issues related to the use of technology.
