A man charged with strangling one woman, and suspected of killing of six others, refuses to speak at his first court hearing in Indiana on Wednesday morning.

Police say 43 year-old Darren Deon Vann has confessed to killing seven women, but so far, he is only charged with strangling 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy in a motel in Hammond on Friday night. Three other women were also found dead in vacant buildings in Gary, and charges against Vann in those deaths could come this week.

At Wednesday's hearing at the Lake County Jail, Vann initially refused to go into the courtroom because he didn't want the media there. When he finally entered, he looked straight ahead. He refused to be put under Oath three times. The judge held him in contempt, and postponed the hearing for a week.
