Kenosha County, WI — A pair of Milwaukee brothers now face felony charges after a high-speed chase. Dashcam video shows them weaving between cars and trucks – all in the middle of the day.
Just before noon on Thursday, October 16th, the driver of a silver Chevrolet Malibu fled from a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy who tried to stop him for speeding. Inside the car were brothers Gualbert and Jonathan Portillo.
“This is probably the riskiest chase that I’ve seen in my 19 years,” said Sgt. Bill Beth from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.
The two continued south on I-94 before getting off the freeway at the state line. That’s when they turned around and went north on the frontage road.
“They’re from Milwaukee. So my thought is perhaps they wanted to be in more familiar territory,” said Sgt. Beth.
As the chase headed into Racine County, the brothers blew their front tires. The debris flew back toward the pursuing deputies.
With the Malibu slowing down, a Racine County deputy spins the brothers into the median wall. After a short foot chase, both men are arrested.
Afterward, police say the Portillos only said “I panicked” and “I was stupid.”
Gualbert Portillo, the driver, is charged with fleeing an officer and recklessly endangering safety. If convicted, he faces up to 13-and-a-half years in prison. His brother, Jonathan, faces charges of bail jumping and possession of marijuana. If convicted on those charges, he could spend 12-and-a-half years in prison.
