Cook County sheriff Tom Dart says investigators are searching some areas of Illinois for possible links to the suspected serial killer in Indiana.

Sources said on Sunday that the suspect, Darren Vann, told investigators in Hammond that he had crossed the state line to commit murders

Sheriff Dart tells says he sent crews to search a number of general locations in southern Cook County earlier today.  He says the focus is in the forest preserves near the border with Lake County Indiana.

Also part of today's search was the city of Harvey.  Harvey, like Gary, has a number of abandoned houses and other buildings.  That seems to be the same focus as Gary, where Vann lead police to a number of abandoned houses where bodies were found.

Harvey also has a large number of cold case murders and missing persons.

“It's an Indiana case right now,” Dart said. “But we have gotten some information throughout the case there may be some areas that we need to be looking at … just more as a general concern.”
