Today marks 8 months to the day the of body of 19 year-old Parvin Varughese was discovered in a wooded area in Carbondale.
That discovery came 9 days after Pravin was reported missing, following a party.
Since then, there has been a whirlwind of conflicting reports surrounding Pravin’s death investigation.
The Jackson County Coroner says he died of hypothermia, but an independent autopsy commissioned by Pravin’s family shows the student had several bruises and scratches on his body, and suffered from blunt force trauma to the head.
Carbondale investigators also accused of not doing a thorough search of the wooded area where Pravin was found-- after someone came forward saying he dropped-off the student near that area.
Carbondale’s police chief has since been fired, and the Varughese family has filed a lawsuit again the city of Carbondale.
The pain is evident for Pravin’s mother who has devoted her time and attention-- in the quest to get answers.
“This is in my mind every second. I can not, I can not. If I die today, I can not be in peace,"Lovely Varughese, Pravin's mother said. “For him to just lie in the woods with nobody around, it’s a killer. It’s a killer for us.”
