A man has been charged with the murder of an elderly barber at a bus stop.

Police say Samuel Higgins, 29, shoved 88-year-old Arthur Hearn to the ground in the 8500 Block of South Cottage Grove Avenue on September 25, then went through his pockets.

Hearn was taken to the hospital with head trauma and died three days later.

Family members and coworkers said Hearn was heading to Farrell's Barber Shop, where he worked. They also say he was considered a pillar in the Chatham community.

Higgins is charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of robbery. He is due in bond court Saturday afternoon.
