Passengers traveling in and out of O’Hare Airport Wednesday morning were evacuated from Terminal 1 while authorities investigated a suspicious package.

A bag was left unattended at the north end of the terminal at departures. A police dog, trained to detect explosives, sat on it, indicating something was wrong.

Chicago police and bomb experts from the Office of Emergency Management and Communications rushed to the scene and evacuated the terminal while further investigating.

For two hours passengers and airport personnel were kept away from the terminal. A second dog was brought in that did not detect anything dangerous on the bag and eventually bomb experts opened it. It was empty.

Operations returned to normal and passengers were allowed back in the terminal.
