If you thought you something flash through the sky last night, you may feel vindicated after reading this.

The American Meteor Society reports that four large fireballs were seen in the sky over the eastern half of the United States – including Illinois.

They say among the reports, 77 witnesses from Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana reported a bright fireball over Michigan around 9 p.m.

Three of the four events occurred within 90 minutes of each other.

“It is rare that multiple significant fireball events occur and are reported to the AMS in the same evening. After analysis of the time, proximity of witnesses and pointing data gathered, it was determined that each event was unique,” the AMS wrote on its website.

Did you see a fireball on Tuesday night?  The AMS is asking others who may have seen the fireballs to report the incident to them.

I saw one of them driving home last night about 8:30-9 pm. I was driving north, it was definitely in the northeast part of the sky. It was the grandest, longest most amazing meteor I have ever seen in my entire life! It took up a huge portion of the sky. At first I thought it was a firework, but it shot down straight as an arrow and left a glowing streak in the sky after it, and then broke up into pieces. It was so amazing, I’ll never forget it! I reported it to the American Meteor Society when I got home.

I too saw the fireball from Wittenberg, WI heading Northeast on highway 29. I have never seen anything like it before, I’m glad I was able to see it.

My son saw one while camping. We had just left his campsite, unfortunately, so we missed it. He said it was incredible. We’re in northern Lower Michigan, about 1/3 hour southwest of Traverse City.

I was driving in Kenosha nearish to the lake around 9 pm and saw a HUGE shooting star that I thought was a burning plane at first. It must have been a fireball!
