South Cicero Avenue is open again after a hostage standoff blocked traffic this afternoon.

The incident began in Bedford Park just before 1:30 p.m. when a woman contacted authorities and told them her husband was holding their two children and two dogs in the cab of his semi truck and would not release them, police said.

Police responded and the driver attempted to hit the officers with his vehicle.

A short vehicle chase ensued and ended in the 4400 block of Cicero Ave in Chicago.

The driver stopped the truck and shortly after released the younger of the two children to police. The driver surrendered to police a short time later. The other child and the dogs were unharmed, police said.

Cicero was closed from 43rd to 47th from 1:30 until about 3p.m.

No word yet on charges against the suspect.
