6 SIU students arrested in sexual assaults

Police in Carbondale have arrested six Southern Illinois University students, in connection with sexual assaults against two young women.

Both victims were 18-years-old, one was a student who was assaulted by four men.

The other victim was not a student and was attacked by two men at a campus apartment building.

They were treated and released from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Sexual violence on college campuses has been a growing issue across the country.

Today, the white house launched a new campaign aimed at tackling the problem.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 1 in 5 undergraduate women experiences some form of sexual assault.
