Man accused of cooking ex-girlfriend’s dog, feeding it to her
A California man was arrested after he reportedly cooked his ex-girlfriend’s dog and fed it to her, according to a police report.
The woman told police in Redding, California that her boyfriend at the time, Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh, physically assaulted her. She left their apartment and when she later returned her Pomeranian named “Bear” had disappeared.
The couple had an on-and-off again relationship and had reconciled in early September. It was during this time that Watenpaugh cooked her a meal, police reported.
Watenpaugh later texted her, “How’s your dog taste? I thought it was better with BBQ and those Hawaiian buns,” according to KRCR. He also left a bag at her door with a hate note and attached to it were severed dog paws.
Police arrested the 35-year-old man on Thursday and say he admitted to sending the messages and placing the note, but denied killing or cooking her dog.
Watenpaugh has been charged with domestic violence, false imprisonment, stalking and animal cruelty.
He has been held on $250,000 bail.
