Police involved shooting, suspect shot

A police involved shooting overnight in the West Town neighborhood.

It started at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday night,  Gang Enforcement Central officers were conducting a narcotics investigation on the 2300 block of West Lake.

The officers noticed the subject of the investigation was sitting inside a vehicle.

The offender then accelerated towards the officers using his vehicle as a weapon, crashing into the officers squad car, causing the officer getting out of the passengers side to be knocked to the ground.

As the officer was lying on the ground injured, the offender then accelerated towards the officer.

An officer then discharged his weapon at the driver to stop him.

The offender was struck, and transported to Stroger hospital in critical condition.

The officer who fell to the ground after being hit by the car was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.
