Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to push back the age of the city’s curfew by a year.

Emanuel says it’s all in the name of keeping kids safer.

Right now, Chicago teens between the ages of 12 and 16 are required to be indoors by 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights.  On Friday and Saturday nights, there’s an 11 p.m. curfew.  Emanuel wants to push that age up from 16 to 17.

There are exceptions to the resolution.  Children can be outdoors past the curfew hours if they are in their own yard or are accompanied by their parent or guardian.  They can also be out past curfew if they are taking part in a supervised youth activity.
