Township High School District 214 in the northwest suburbs is holding an emergency meeting tomorrow morning to approve funding for badly needed repairs at Wheeling High School.
Friday’s storm caused about $5 million dollars of damage at the school. The storm that came through ripped off part of the school’s roof and flooded the field house.
Pictures from inside the building show pieces of the ceiling laying on the ground and water on the floors.
Also outside, there’s damage to the tennis courts and light poles.
Cleanup and repair crews got to work, just after the storm, but major repairs still need to be made.
The fieldhouse is currently closed so there are no gym classes or sports there. The district anticipates it will remain closed for the next 2-3 months while repairs are being made.
The emergency meeting tomorrow will be held at the district’s headquarters in Arlington Heights with hopes to waive the state’s competitive bidding requirement so repairs can be made as quickly as possible.
