A player expected to be a regular starter for the Depaul Blue Demons this season is off the team and charged with three counts of battery.

23-year-old guard Charles McKinney was dismissed after an on-campus altercation August 30th.

Police say the senior is accused of getting physical with campus security guards as they tried to search his dorm room.

The guards claim they got involved after they found McKinney to be drunk. Police say he shoved the guards out of the way and left.

He was arrested when he returned.

McKinney was expected to take a leadership role with the team this year.

He has a court appearance set for September 22nd.
