A rare virus is sending hundreds of children to hospitals throughout the midwest.

The respiratory virus, identified as Enterovirus 68, causes cold-like symptoms.

Health officials say between August 18th and September fourth, more than 900 children have been hospitalized from Illinois to Colorado.

The virus can leave children and teens with asthma debilitated.

Doctors say the virus is extremely rare, and the number of cases has escalated since school began.

There is no vaccine.
