Illinois State Trooper hit by car during traffic stop on tollway

A State Trooper remains hospitalized in critical condition after a car, driven by a suspected drunk driver, hit him on the Tri-State.

The trooper was conducting a traffic stop in the northbound lanes of I-294 near St. Charles Road when a maroon Honda struck him, says Monique Bond Illinois State Police spokesperson.

The Honda continued driving and struck silver Acura, causing the Acura to roll over. The driver and six passengers from the Acura were taken to area hospitals.

The trooper was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The female driver of the Honda was taken into custody following the second crash, police said.
