A Indiana University student from the Chicago area was found dead at a sorority house Thursday night.

Kelly Ann Hackendahl, 20, of Libertyville, was beginning her junior year at IU, according to a statement from the university. She was working toward a degree in education and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday, university police responded to a call for medical assistance at the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority house at 1020 N. Jordan Ave. Upon arrival, officers found Hackendahl unconscious and unresponsive.

Police and emergency medical personnel attempted to revive Hackendahl for nearly an hour, but were unsuccessful. The precise cause of death is still being investigated but foul play is not suspected.

Counselors are being made available to members of the sorority and anyone else affected by her death.

The sorority tweeted about Hackendahl Friday morning:

Hello, I would just like to say I hope that there is a very good reason for this young lady’s death. I certainly hope that they publish the findings as the ZTA chosen goddess is the same one that is depicted holding the scales of justice all across America. They ave some very notable members including the first Female Marine Corps General, and Dancing with the Stars and Sportscaster Erin Andrews……..this young lady had her whole life ahead of her including a future in Education and Business Professionals of America. Indiana University has, aside from this one student, 40,000 others of whom may not really care, but as important as higher education is and the lifelong friendships and connections you make, it should never be worth someone’s life. It is sad day in Indiana, from the land given to IU from Vincennes University until the present day, there has and will be more tragedies amongst Indiana Institutions of Higher Education, but hopefully they will be commissioned as ZTA’s goddess is endowed with the, “Natural Law” or law of nature as it is written amongst the slashing of the winds and the delicate sounds of thunder that remind us all that there is at least one higher power of Powers that follows us all in the medulla oblongotta of your very souls……….
