ernie-banks-1970x-largeOn this day in 1971, Ernie Banks hit his 512th and final major league home run in the Cubs 5-4 loss to the Reds at Wrigley Field.

Banks solo homer off Cincinnati’s Jim McGlothlin tied the game at 3 in the 4th inning. As a player-coach for the Cubs that year, Mr. Cub played in 39 games, with three home runs in 83 at-bats. He played his final game on September 26 that year at Wrigley Field.
