Father charged in accidental shooting of 3-year-old boy

Police have charged the father of a 3-year-old boy who was accidentally shot Friday night on the city's West Side.

26-year-old James Jenkins has been charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

He's being held on $500,000 dollars bail.

The boy was shot in the head.

This happened on the 4300 block of West Monroe St in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

He was in a closet with at least one other child when the gun went off.

Police say the father took the gun and all of its ammunition and fled the scene.

The boy was taken to Mount Sinai hospital in critical condition.
