A bride-to-be will have a cherished guest in attendance at her wedding in Palos Heights this weekend: The man who save her life when she was an infant.

Police Sgt. Joe Barca and Shammah Hammideh were bonded by their encounter 21 years ago.

At the time, Hammideh was 2 months old and Barca was a 24-year veteran of the Yonkers, New York Police Department.

Barca was called to the family's home with a report that Shammah wasn't breathing.

He delivered CPR to the lifeless child and Shammah started breathing again.

Hammideh and her family have kept in touch with Barca over the years, sending him cards on his birthday.

Hammideh has moved to the Chicago area to attend nursing school.

Barca is getting ready to retire from the force in the fall.
