A man and a teen have been charged in the beating death of a 55-year-old man in Romeoville.

42-year-old Mark Ballard and his 15-year-old son, have been charged with first degree murder. They are accused in the brutal beating death of 55-year-old Rich Pollack very early Sunday morning outside Pollack's home in the 400 block of Tallman in Romeoville.

Police believe-- and the victims sons confirm—the confrontation began several days ago when some items, including a skateboard, were stolen from the car of Pollack's 20-year-old son.

The families knew each other and were trying to work it out without police being involved. But accusations turned to arguments which escalated into violence.

Ballard is being held at the Will County jail on $5 million dollars bail. His son is being held on $1 million dollars at River Valley Detention Center in Joliet.

Police say a number of people were involved in an earlier confrontation. They have been identified by police and are being questioned in this case.

The investigation continues.
