WAUKESHA, Wis. — The unexplained death of a healthy 12-year-old girl may have its roots in a doctor visit.

Meredith Prohaska was an active, vibrant girl. When she went to the doctor for a sore throat and an HPV vaccine, nothing was out of the ordinary.

A few hours later she was unresponsive and soon after died at the hospital.

Doctors were stumped, and an autopsy report rules her cause of death as inconclusive.

“The only thing different about that day was that shot. I wish I would’ve known more about it before I agreed to it,” her mother Rebecca Prohaska said.

Rebecca Prohaska and her husband Mark believe the vaccine is to blame, citing possible side effects they did not consider. However, Dr. Geoffrey Swain of the Milwaukee Health Department said the vaccine’s benefits outweigh the risks and others should not avoid it because of this scare.

“Vaccines in general, and the HPV vaccine in particular, are very, very safe. It’s a very safe vaccine and very effective,” Swain said.

      What should they stop?
big drug companies push their drums on people scaring them into believing they’ll die without them. You’re a damn fool if you fall for that crap! You buy their unnecessary drugs and they get rich

The vaccine killed her. It says on the package insert it can cause death. It did.
    Vaccines are not without problems.

6248 Permanent Injuries and 144 Deaths Following Gardasil HPV Vaccine: Coincidence or Scandal? |…
As of November 2013 there have been 31,741 adverse effects, including 6248 permanent injuries and 144 deaths recorded following Gardasil vaccines.

I’d practice abstinence before I’d take that shot. I don’t blindly trust doctors or scientist. They make mistakes and the fact is medical care is the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S.

    • Bill Otten

And just how many of these death are due to vaccines? Making a statement like this is sheer ignorance! Yes, no vaccine is perfect, but if you look a the good these vaccines have done versus the problems-the benefits far outweigh the risks.

  • Mal

Bill do you honestly believe the death of this girl is mysterious or “inconclusive”. Maybe they arent sure how the vaccine killed her but that doesnt mean it didnt. The fact that her cause of death does not mention the vaccine is scary in itself. How under reported or just ignored are adverse reactions to vaccines?

I wonder why the family keeps neglecting to mention that Meredith got her lip pierced before getting sick and dying. She could have died from sepsis or meningitis from a botched piercing. But that’s not nearly as big of a scandal as blaming a vaccine I guess.

    • Frederick Prohaska

One thing is certain Meredith would be alive if she did not have that shot, you can say anything you want on the internet. you can grope around all you want trying to justify your stupid remarks, trashing a dead little girl, What is wrong with you ?

  • Peter Pauletti

And I wonder how you people in this thread who are supporting vaccines would feel if it was your child who just passed away and the only thing different in your child’s life prior to her death was having administered a vaccine that wasn’t even state mandated. Those parents will question their decision to vaccinate for the rest of their lives. Thank you David for posting those statistics. I wonder if their doctor gave the parents those stats before vaccinating? Ha, what a joke! They would likely still have their little girl.

Am I the only one who read she was there for a SORE THROAT and the shot? Is it possible she had something else going on?!?!

  • JameChallis

The is journalism at its worst. Suggestive, attention grabbing headline. Then sprinkle in some “what-if” with no evidence to back it up. Millions of people get vaccines every day and don’t die suddenly.

  • jay

If any of you who say that “the risks outweigh the benefits/millions of people get vaccines every day” had a child who died suddenly after receiving it, my guess is that you’d feel differently. Only a guess…but a strong one.

    • No One of Consequence

Obviously that’s true, but hindsight is always 20/20. Thanks, but if I can limit my kid’s chance of contracting cancer in later life, or spreading a disease to their partner that would cause them to contract cancer, I’ll take the risk and live with the outcome.

  • Mary Buerkley

do not believe that doctor or any doctor for a second………I’d rather have a written promise from my daughter to stay a virgin that to have her get a vaccine that is quite obviously ‘deadly’ to some……and one is too many! liars! the MDA, just like the
CDC. WHO. NO, listen to you! not the media and the brainwashing commercials etc!!!!! sad, very sad, some have to be sacrificed for the many? all because of sexual promiscruity? better to have a promise and teach our girls (AND BOYS) to live a clean life.

    • No One of Consequence

I read comments like yours Mary, and I wonder what color the sky is in your make believe world. Tell me, how are the Cleavers? Beaver is such a nice boy…

You keep clinging to that hope that your child is not going to have sex until marriage and THEN pray really, REALLY hard that her husband hasn’t slept with one other partner that infected HIM with HPV, that he then shares with her. She can be perfect according to your moral code, and could still end up with a high likelihood to contract HPV, and ultimately cervical cancer.

But don’t let a little thing like preventing cancer stop you…
