Brother, sister fatally struck by Metra train

BNSF service was fully restored Friday morning after two people were struck and killed by a Metra train.

According to Metra's website, inbound and outbound trains will operate on their normal schedule but commuters should anticipate minor delays.

A brother and his sister in their 50s were struck near the Western Ave Station at about 5 p.m. Thursday by a train heading inbound from La Grange.

Witnesses say the say the siblings were were pushing a cart on the tracks looking for metal scraps.  The sister was her brother’s caretaker. He was partially blind.

The spot is a well known short cut across the tracks for area residents.
